FAU football stadium gets $500,000 boost

BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic received the biggest donation to its new football stadium Wednesday, as SmileXpress committed $500,000 for naming rights to one of the entrances.

The money for the stadium was part of a commitment by SmileXpress to donate $1.25 million to the athletic department over the next 10 years.

SmileXpress owner Bob Lipton said $250,000 is to be used by coach Howard Schnellenberger to create a memorial in the stadium for Schnellenberger's son, Stephen, who died earlier this month after a lifelong battle with cancer.
